Privacy

Last updated 27 October 2026

Draft for legal review. Not in force yet.

This explains what personal information Huntaway collects, why, and what you can do about it. We follow the Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

  • Builders: your email address, to sign you in. Your name and business name when you start a paid plan, to bill you.
  • Jobs: the site address, building consent number and council. We don't collect the homeowner's name or contact details.
  • Documents: what trades and builders upload. These usually include a trade's name, signature, licence or registration number and business details, because the council needs them.
  • Basic technical information, such as when a document was uploaded or checked, to keep the service working and secure.
  • A sign-in cookie on your phone, so you stay signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Why we collect it

Only to collect, check and pack completion documents for your CCC application, to draft RFI replies, to support you, and to bill you. We don't sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Automatic checks

Documents are read by an AI service (Anthropic's Claude) to check things like signatures, dates and licence numbers. The results are shown to the builder, who makes the final decision. Anthropic processes the documents to give us the result. Under its commercial terms it does not use them to train its models.

Where it's kept

Jobs and documents are stored with Supabase in Sydney, Australia. The app runs on Vercel. Documents sent for checking are processed by Anthropic, which may be outside New Zealand and Australia. We only use providers that protect information to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account is open, so you can answer council questions after the CCC is issued. You can delete your account in the app at any time, under Your account. Your jobs and documents are deleted straight away. Copies in our backups are gone within 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Trades can ask about documents they uploaded, and we will work with the builder to respond. Email us and we'll reply within 20 working days.

If something goes wrong

If a privacy breach could cause serious harm, we will tell the people affected and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as we can. If you're not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
